GBR Rowing Excursion for 8th grade
Excursion Overview:
Eighth-grade students will travel to GBR's boathouse at Jackson's Landing in Durham, NH. All students will receive instruction from qualified coaches on land, covering proper rowing techniques, equipment handling (boats and oars), and what to expect on the water. Boats will launch with a combination of students and GBR volunteers, ensuring that each boat includes experienced athletes and coxswains.
The majority of the time will be spent on the water, where students will first learn to row in pairs before gradually progressing to groups of 4–6, with the potential to row in an eight-person boat depending on the group's skill progression. Coaches will introduce fun challenges designed to emphasize teamwork, body awareness, and critical thinking skills to develop strategy.
