The mission of the Cooperative Middle School is to provide a challenging, safe and healthy learning environment designed to meet the social, emotional and intellectual needs of all students.

The Cooperative Middle School is located in Stratham, New Hampshire and is administered by the Exeter Region Cooperative School District which serves the towns of Brentwood, Exeter, East Kingston, Kensington, Newfields, and Stratham. The student population is comprised of 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students from these six towns.

New England League of Middle Schools has awarded CMS Eighth Grade Assistant Principal Melanie Faulkner with the A+ Administrator Award! NELMS seeks to honor administrators who value, understand, and support effective middle level education.

Criteria:

*   Understands how young adolescents learn

*   Champions middle level education by

    \- actively promoting middle level education

    \- building community support

    \- recognizing middle level as a distinct entity of education

*   Support and models effective middle level philosophy

*   Encourages professional development in middle level best practices

**Excursion Overview:**

Eighth-grade students will travel to GBR's boathouse at Jackson's Landing in Durham, NH. All students will receive instruction from qualified coaches on land, covering proper rowing techniques, equipment handling (boats and oars), and what to expect on the water. Boats will launch with a combination of students and GBR volunteers, ensuring that each boat includes experienced athletes and coxswains.

The majority of the time will be spent on the water, where students will first learn to row in pairs before gradually progressing to groups of 4–6, with the potential to row in an eight-person boat depending on the group's skill progression. Coaches will introduce fun challenges designed to emphasize teamwork, body awareness, and critical thinking skills to develop strategy.\
**Excursion Details:**

*   **Dates:** Friday, June 6th &  Monday, June 9th, 2025 (If interest exceeds 40 students, we will offer two separate excursion dates due to transportation capacity.)

*   **Departure Time:** 8:20 AM (Period 2)

*   **Return Time:** 1:20 PM (End of period 6)

*   **Lunch:** A designated lunch break will be provided. Students must bring their own lunch or request a bagged lunch from the school cafeteria.

*   **What to Bring? **A filled water bottle. Athletic attire and sneakers. Bring a change of clothes to leave at school in case a student gets wet.

*   **Waiver:** Great Bay Rowing will provide a liability waiver for parents/guardians to sign.

*   **Swim Test Waiver:** Parents/guardians must also sign a swim test waiver, acknowledging that their child meets the following requirements:

    *   The participant has demonstrated the ability to swim 100 yards and tread water or float for five minutes without a flotation device or external support.
    *   The participant completed the test wearing clothing similar to what they will wear while rowing (e.g., shirt, socks, shorts, or Lycra tights).

*   **Accessibility:** Transportation and adapted equipment will be provided for students requiring additional support services.

*   **Cost:** $0. Great Bay Rowing is volunteering its services to provide this exposure opportunity for CMS students.

**Commitment & Expectations:**

**This form is for serious inquiries only.** Students and parents/guardians are responsible for completing this form together. By completing the form, students acknowledge their commitment to attending this excursion. All participants must be in good academic standing, adhere to the CMS Code of Conduct & Behavior, and take responsibility for following up with their teachers regarding any missed assignments.

3 late buses will run from CMS to various locations throughout our district. Buses will depart CMS between 4:10 and 4:15. Buses may occasionally run late depending on circumstances beyond First Student's control.

Students will be required to sign in when they board the bus.

Students must be supervised by staff while at school awaiting the late bus. Supervision could include arranged after school help with a teacher or athletics coaches. Students may not stay after school without a purpose.

**For Immediate Release**

SAU 16 was informed of an active police investigation around 1:00 pm on Tuesday April 1, 2025. As a result SAU 16 placed Exeter Developmental Preschool, Lincoln Street School, Main Street School, Seacoast School of Technology and Newfields Elementary School on secure campus status. This precautionary measure was being taken to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.

The decision to initiate the secure campus protocol came following information from local law enforcement regarding a potential threat in the surrounding area. During this time, the safety of our students and staff remained our top priority. We worked closely with local authorities and  continued to provide updates as new information became available.

While on secure campus status entry and exit were restricted. We understand the concerns this situation may have caused and want to assure families and the community that we took all necessary steps to keep everyone safe. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

SAVE THE DATE: February 12, 2025 @6pm - 7:30pm at EHS

This Halloween, Exeter High School Student Senate participated in their 10th annual Trick-or-Canning event.

Instead of asking for candy, more than 60 students asked for food donations throughout over 40 neighborhoods in all six SAU-16 towns. The food was collected and brought into school, where it was sorted and organized. This year was the most successful by far in both the number of collected goods and student participation. Items collected for this service project go to End 68 Hours of Hunger, a volunteer organization that packs backpacks that students in our community can bring home to help fight food insecurity during the 68hours between school lunch on Fridays and breakfast on Mondays.
