Field Initiatives are problem-solving activities that groups of participants do together (though not very 'physical', the activities often take place in a large field since many require a significant amount of space.) The activities usually focus on developing skills such as team building, leadership, self-esteem, good communication, patience, etc. The activities are designed to give participants a "hands-on" (experiential) opportunity to develop real-life skills in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere. A field initiative can be anything from a quick cooperative tag game to a multi-day obstacle course. Field initiatives begin with a list of rules and boundaries and end with a period of reflection and processing in order to help transfer whatever lessons are learned back to the participants' real lives.
