Learning to tie our own climbing knots!
Leadership Studies
Leadership Studies is a half trimester course for 7th and 8th grade students. Our mission is to explore the following "portrait of a middle school leader":
"A leader practices awareness of self and others, communicates effectively, thinks critically, and uses creativity to solve problems in a collaborative environment."
Through a series of experiential, adventure-based activities, students build community, develop awareness of their own leadership style and potential, and practice skills crucial for success at home, in school, and in their future work. The experience culminates in an opportunity for students to design, plan, and implement their own 3 day climbing experience on the Robinson Ropes Course with the guidance and support of Mrs. Frigon and Mr. Hughes, our resident challenge course professionals.
Our foundational philosophies are that activities are only as beneficial as the reflections that follow them, and that each student is responsible for their own decisions, including those related to their level of personal challenge. While all are expected to participate in a meaningful way, we practice "challenge by choice", which means that student voice is at the center of all we do, and students are in charge of the kinds of challenges they engage in, including as it relates to climbing.
