Literacy Lab

Literacy Lab was established to provide intervention strategies to students who are struggling in the areas of reading comprehension, decoding, and/or fluency. These students have been identified through yearly normative testing and/or teacher recommendations.

The groups in Literacy are composed of small groups of students who are receiving individualized instruction in the literal, interpretive, and evaluative areas of comprehension. These classes provide students the opportunity to increase fluency and understanding through reading high-interest fiction and non-fiction. Students demonstrate their comprehension through written and verbal responses. In this controlled environment, immediate feedback is provided to the students.

Regular evaluations take place, allowing students to chart their progress and further identify growth objectives. As a reading instructor, I am willing to consult on strategies and literature that is appropriate within the home. Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in their child’s reading development.

I have high expectations for this school year. Some key tools for achievement and success are for students to come to class prepared, treat themselves and others with respect, and present a positive attitude. Please feel free to contact me via e-mail with any questions or concerns. I look forward to partnering with you to make this a positive experience for your child.
